Spotlight on the locals!
The Working Press April 27th, 2009Those of us familiar with politics in New Jersey know that the May municipal elections and the June primaries consistently feature hard fought campaigns that occasionally turn nasty and this year is no exception.
As of yet, there is not set format for this website, but we will update coverage of these locals races as often as possible. Since this website is designed to thrive on reader driven content; therefore, the more verifiably accurate information we receive on a particular election the more coverage that contest will receive. If you the reader have a tip, or documents, or campaign advertisements that you think need to be shared, we will feature them.
To kick things off we decided to examine the political backwaters of Passaic County. Never receiving as much attention as neighboring counties Bergen, Essex, Morris or even nearby Hudson, Passaic always features some of the most colorful characters, bitter grudges and entertaining campaigns as anywhere else.
This year’s dual battle for control of the Passaic County Regular Republican Organization and the Republican Primary for District 40 Assembly finds one man in the cross hairs more than anyone in the State on either side of the aisle. That man is Scott Rumana.
As the Chairman of the PCRRO and an Assemblyman, Rumana is fighting on two fronts. Observers seem to agree that he is more concerned with keeping the chairmanship, which should help provide himself some protection in the next reapportionment. A couple of changes in his current safe District 40 could force Rumana into unfriendly territory for Republican legislators.
Publicly Rumana is dismissive of his Assembly opponents Anthony Rottino and Joe Caruso. In private; however, Rumana has been expressing concerns and complaining loudly in Assembly caucus meetings about the need for him and his running mate David Russo to be protected by the nearly bankrupt Assembly Republican campaign accounts.
Stay tuned for more on Rumana’s two front battle this week!
