“KEEP MY BROTHER OUT OF IT”
The Working Press May 4th, 2009
Chris Christie complained when his brother was brought into his campaign relative to being accused of trading violations by the SEC and named in complaints by the US Attorney in New York.
While offering no explanation and seeming to scold anyone who would dare question what had occurred, he insisted in no uncertain terms that it was unfortunate when a candidate’s family members were brought into a campaign and dragged through the mud. He got petulant and angry and simply said “leave my brother out of it.”
Well, it is hard to do so when your brother seems to have been into some other interesting dealings on Chris Christie’s behalf while Chris Christie was still the US Attorney, especially when those things had to do with Christie running for Governor of New Jersey.
It seems that while Chris Christie was still the U.S. Attorney for New Jersey he may have illegally campaigned for governor by using the Assembly Republican Victory ’09 (ARV) campaign committee to advance his candidacy. According to confidential papers filed with ELEC, from December 1, 2008 until the present, Todd Christie may have made donations in excess of the legal limit of $3,400, by using the ARV to advance his brother’s candidacy.
The Assembly Republican Victory ’09 (ARV) was supposedly established to recruit, train, encourage, and support Republican candidates for the General Assembly in the 2009 elections. ARV solicited and requested contributions from donors like Todd Christie, who reached the $3,400 limit of donations to the Chris Christie for Governor Campaign, which had sought and received matching taxpayer funds.
This matter is currently being investigated by ELEC under a formally filed complaint.
Where this investigation will lead is anyone’s guess, however, if any of it is true and it is sustained prior to the primary, it may be another of a series of blows to the Christie campaign that shows corruption surrounding the corruption fighter.
No matter how gullible New Jersey voters are, one thing they don’t like is hypocrisy. Chris Christie keeps complaining that his brother should be “left out of it.” Apparently, that will be hard to do in as much as his brother appears to be hip deep in it.
More will follow as the investigation moves forward.
