Urban Opportunity Scholarships

The prime sponsor of the Assembly bill that would create a pilot program to provide urban school children with an opportunity scholarship funded by tax deductible corporate donations will be leaving the Legislature at the end of this term. With Nilsa Cruz-Perez’s retirement, who will step up to become the standard bearer for educational choice in New Jersey?

Angel Fuentes, a Camden City Councilman, will be replacing Cruz-Perez as Assembly Speaker Joe Roberts’ running mate. If he has the same passion for this issue as Cruz-Perez, could he convince the Speaker to give this bill a chance to see the light of day?
